Filter Definitions
These filters help you analyze service performance, identify top sellers, and spot underperforming offerings.
Primary Category: Filter by package folder type (Membership, Credit, etc.) to group your services at the highest organizational level. Use this to compare broad service categories and understand which types of services generate the most revenue.
Secondary Category: Filter by specific package names within your Primary Category selection. This allows you to drill down from broad categories to individual service offerings and see exactly which services are driving sales.
Group By Secondary: When enabled, the report displays Secondary Category names in place of Primary Category names on the chart. Use this when you want to compare specific service offerings directly rather than viewing them grouped by their broader category.
Period Type: View revenue grouped by Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly. Choose based on the level of detail you need—Monthly is most common for trend analysis.
Date Range: Select a preset range (e.g., Last Quarter, Last Year) from the dropdown suggestions.
Date: Define a custom start and end date when preset ranges don't fit your needs.
Net Values: Switch between gross sales (default) and net sales (after refunds and returns). Use this to understand how much revenue you're retaining versus giving back.
How to Use This Report
Understanding Your Service Performance
The Service Sales chart is your visual dashboard for understanding which services drive revenue and which need improvement. Use it to make informed decisions about service offerings, pricing, and marketing focus.
Key scenarios where this report provides insights:
1. Identifying Your Top-Performing Services
- Use the default Primary Category view to see which service types generate the most revenue.
- Switch Group By Secondary on to compare individual services side by side.
- Look for services that consistently perform well across multiple time periods.
Action: Double down on your top performers—train more staff to deliver them, increase their visibility in marketing, or create package bundles around them.
2. Spotting Underperforming Services
- Filter by Primary Category and review services with consistently low revenue.
- Switch Period Type to Monthly to see if performance is declining, flat, or inconsistent.
- Compare under-performers to similar services to understand the gap.
Action: If a service consistently generates low revenue, investigate why. Is it priced wrong? Poorly marketed? Low quality? Consider discontinuing it or repositioning it to improve performance.
3. Analyzing Service Trends Over Time
- Use Period Type set to Monthly or Quarterly with Date Range = Last Year.
- Look for seasonal patterns (summer outdoor services, winter indoor offerings).
- Identify services that are growing versus those declining in popularity.
Action: Plan service offerings around seasonal trends. If yoga retreats spike in summer, prepare inventory and staffing ahead of time. If personal training drops in December, plan promotions to counter the decline.
Common Filter Combinations:
- Service portfolio review: Primary Category view + Last 12 Months + Monthly → See how each service type is trending.
- Individual service analysis: Group By Secondary enabled + Last Quarter → Compare specific services directly.
- Net performance check: Net Values enabled + Month-over-Month → Understand true revenue after refunds.
Pro tip: Run this report quarterly and identify your top 3 performing services and bottom 3 performers. Focus marketing and staff training on the top performers to maximize revenue, and evaluate whether bottom performers should be improved, repositioned, or discontinued.
